XRP, once the darling of the cryptocurrency community, has encountered some difficulties recently. After falling about 7% last month and hovering below $3 for more than a week, investors are questioning whether to hold on or give up. But don’t rush to conclusions about this digital asset—several adjusters could send it skyrocketing in the coming months.

Lower interest rates may boost currency momentum

With the Fed meeting three more times this year (September, October and December), the likelihood of a September rate cut seems very high, with multiple rate cuts likely by the end of the year.

When interest rates fall, safe investments like Treasury bonds become less attractive because their returns decrease. This often drives investors toward riskier assets — including cryptocurrencies. While this will benefit the entire cryptocurrency community, XRP may ride on this trend as one of the more established players.

I'm not entirely convinced that this is necessarily guaranteed. However, the Federal Reserve may still keep interest rates steady, and even if a rate cut occurs, currency prices will not always respond in a predictable way. The market has a way of surprising even the most confident analysts.

ETF approval looks imminent

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is scheduled to decide on the XRP ETF in October, and the chances of approval are currently estimated at 95%. This could be a game changer.

If approved, the funds would be required to purchase large amounts of XRP to support their products. What’s more, ETF approval often legitimizes the asset in the eyes of mainstream investors who have previously avoided purchasing digital assets directly.

JPMorgan estimates first-year inflows at between $4-8 billion, but that may appear conservative given the recent performance of the Ethereum ETF. The CEO of Canary Capital believes that the XRP ETF could attract $500 million in funding in just the first month. This is huge buying pressure for a coin that has been struggling.

ripple factor

In the long term, XRP’s value proposition depends on Ripple’s payment network. The company created XRP and its blockchain (XRPL) specifically to make cross-border payments faster and cheaper. While traditional SWIFT transfers take days, RippleNet completes settlement in seconds.

With only more than 300 financial institutions using RippleNet compared to SWIFT's 11,500+ financial institutions, Ripple faces huge challenges. To make matters worse, many banks using RippleNet don’t even use XRP in their transactions.

But partnerships with major players like Bank of America and American Express suggest things may be changing. Financial institutions are slow to adopt new technologies, so patience is required. If Ripple continues to expand its network, XRP may eventually justify its higher valuation.

The next few months will be critical for XRP. Between potential rate cuts, ETF decisions, and Ripple’s continued expansion efforts, the digital asset may finally be emerging from its doldrums. Just remember that nothing is ever certain in the cryptocurrency world.
